The Decision

Damion Wright grew up in Denver, went to Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, and earned his shot at the next level the hard way. He was an All-American offensive lineman, the kind of player organizations build their lines around. He played for Seattle, played in NFL Europe for the Amsterdam Admirals, and kept pushing.

Then his oldest daughter was on her way.

"This little human decided she was on her way, and I had to make sure she was taken care of. She didn't ask to be here."

He could keep chasing the league, take the uncertainty that comes with every roster cut, every training camp, every phone call that could go either way. Or he could get ahead of it, build something stable, and be present for the family he was starting.

He chose his daughter. He never framed it as a sacrifice. She was the biggest blessing he could have received. And it changed the trajectory of his life. 

That decision set everything else in motion. He went back to Denver, got into sales, and started building the career that would take him from retail floors to the executive suite over the next two decades. The transition out of football was not something that happened to him. It was something he chose, on his own terms, before the game could make the choice for him.

Building the Toolkit

What Damion built after football is not a second career. It is a master class in transferable skills, assembled deliberately, one role at a time.

He began his career in sales, quickly realizing that success wasn't about the pitch. It was about hearing 'no' as a 'next opportunity' and possessing the conviction to articulate his value to anyone in the room. He realized that this was merely an athlete’s skill set, he just had to learn the new language.

From there he moved through management, operations, and training and development, taking on more complexity at every stop. At Cricket Wireless he found out he was as good at developing other people as he had been at developing himself. At Verizon he was training more than 500 employees a year across six states, which is its own kind of force multiplication. At Trulia, on top of running three distinct sales groups, leadership trusted him to serve as Change Management Liaison for the whole organization. That last detail matters. It means that when things got hard and uncertain, he was the person they called.

The through-line across all of it: a people-centered approach. Damion is not a numbers guy who happens to manage people. He is a people guy who produces numbers because he understands what makes individuals and teams move.

Since joining Intuit in 2015, he has spent over a decade climbing through four increasingly senior roles, most recently as Global Internal Mobility Programs Leader. Along the way, he served as Global Co-Chair of Intuit's African Ancestry Network (Employee Resource Group) and spent nearly five years as Global D&I Talent Programs Leader, driving the kind of culture work that ensures companies actually function, rather than just talking about it
